Planted House

:description

Private Residence

The challenge was to create a two-storey building on a site, with a permission to only build one-storey buildings, and still have the qualities of daylight on both floors.
We solved it by ‘planting’ the house one storey down from the street and excavating around it on two sides and designing an open atrium in the middle of the house to provide sufficient light for both floors. These courtyards have green walls, which gives a sense of letting the garden inside the house – the vertical gardens.

The house is private towards the street and opens up towards the garden with a glass facade. The layout has split levels arranged around the atrium, and a staircase connects the two floors, along the atrium wall.
